Sell the whole course, not a single hour
Six-week puppy school, a block of five private sessions, a one-off behaviour consult. List each properly, cap the class size, and screen the dogs before you agree to take them.
Courses behave differently to appointments
A course is one purchase and six commitments. Booking tools usually get that wrong.
Multi-session courses, one checkout
Six Thursdays at 7pm bought as a single item. Attendance is tracked per week and a missed session does not free up a place for someone else.
Class caps and waitlists
Set eight places and the ninth person joins a waitlist that fills automatically when someone drops out. You never run a class of fourteen by accident.
Intake questions you write
Age, vaccination status, bite history, what has already been tried. Answers arrive before you accept, so reactive dogs never land in a puppy class.
Homework between weeks
Send the week's practice notes and a short video to everyone on the course. Owners who practise come back for the next course.
Group classes
Puppy school, loose-lead work, recall, tricks. Fixed start dates with a visible countdown of places left.
Private sessions
Sold singly or as a block of five at a better rate. Travel to the client's home with a radius and a mileage surcharge.
Behaviour consults
Longer first appointments with a written report, gated behind a referral question and a vet's name.

What a trainer pays
